AMERICAN MUSLIM MEDICAL RELIEF TEAM WIN OVER HEARTS OF PAKISTANIS

Against all odds the American Muslims are the only Americans keeping the ‘American Spirit’ alive by reaching out to people in their times of need and distress regardless of race, color or religion.

The premier national educational institute of the American Muslims is the International Qur’anic Open University.  The University is playing a very important role in dispelling false propaganda against Islam.  Islam, the religion of peace, cannot condone violence in any form. It is the religion of mankind, a global religion with belief in One Almighty God Who is mentioned in all of the holy books of the past i.e. Old Testament, Psalms, New Testament and Holy Qu'ran.

Keeping this in view the American Muslims extended aid to the Kashmiri victims of gang rape and genocide for eight years. When it came to their own country, the University sent 100 of its Muslim Boy Scouts to conduct relief and rescue operations following the September 11, 2001 tragedy. The Muslim Boy Scouts worked at ground zero for a month rendering every possible aid to victims and their families. Recently, following hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the Muslim Boy Scouts along with the social service agency of the IQOU, Hand to Hands rendered invaluable service to the affected people. By all of this service, they prove their point: their cause is humanitarian, not based on religion at all as Allah is the Creator of all therefore one is obliged to help His creatures be they ant, elephant or human.

This is the core of Sufi doctrine, which is in the spirit of Islam. Presently the team of American Muslims sponsored by International Qur’anic Open University are rendering much needed humanitarian services by treating and caring for those who have suffered injuries in the recent earthquake of Northern Pakistan. One group is based near Murree and has been sending food, tents and medicine to those in need. Another group is attached to Ayub medical complex, Abbottabad working day and night having taken responsibility for the orthopedic and burn wards.

Despite very little cooperation and outside, help they have managed to keep their wards clean and free of diseases such as typhoid, hepatitis, malaria and other fatal illnesses.  The hospital has received an influx of 8,000 patients when its capacity is merely1,000.

The young students and their families of the American branch of the University have sewn bed sheets, gathered medical supplies and tents and have shipped them to the dispatched relief team.

The first group consists of Dr. Bashir Abdul-Wadud, Qasim Wasi, E.M.T, Aisha Muhaamad, R.N. and Bilqees Abdallah- R.N.

The second group headed by Dr. Naeemah bint Alama Hasib, and Dr. Almas Sheikh, a general surgeon who is performing plastic surgery, were flown in when more than 200 children were burned in tent fires. Both are working day and night with the team.

Dr. Jameel Wasi heads our third group along with Bilqees Abdallah and Um Hanif, both L.P.N.s.

The fourth group will be a camping team of 10 experienced trained mountain climbers belonging to Islamberg Hiking Team. They will work on reconstruction and relief. Their goal is to take food and medicine into isolated, unreachable locations due to the road closures and inaccessible rugged terrain.

The American Muslim Medical and Relief team is handicapped due to lack of funds. They have not appealed publicly for funds fearing hidden enemies saying they are funding illegally as was accused in the past. However generous donors have donated medical supplies, tents, equipment, clothing, blankets. Nevertheless our appeal to the government and private donors has been made to help our team reconstruct a village of 100 huts. Money can be sent directly to team on the ground in Pakistan. All donors will receive full statement of account. Receipts for items purchased can and will be given. For example, purchases will show wood, steel sheeting and the like.

The American relief team extends an invitation to those who wish to join hands with us in keeping the American spirit alive and in winning the hearts of Pakistanis.  The Pakistani people have turned from hating Americans and are instead developing an understanding of Americans. This is something the American government agencies could not achieve.
