American Muslims join tsunami relief efforts

International Quranic Open University’s (I.Q.O.U.) Vice Chancellor, His Eminence, El Sheikh Syed Mubarik Ali Shah Gilani directed staff to contact its affiliate group, Muslim Scout Troops, who are located throughout America, to join in the worldwide tsunami relief efforts as they had done in New York City bringing relief materials and supplies, and assisting in the near to Ground Zero.

Relief efforts were quickly launched to gather national contributions toward the humanitarian relief for tsunami victims.  In Binghamton, N.Y. numerous charities, religious organizations, private businesses and the public were contacted by I.Q.O.U. soliciting relief donations of items such as baby formula, canned and nonperishable food products, medical supplies and emergency supplies such as flashlights, candles, and lanterns.  Excellent responses were received in Binghamton as well as in other cities near I.Q.O.U campuses in N. Carolina, Virginia, California, Georgia, and numerous other locations.

Muslim Scouts, who gathered in Binghamton on New Years Day, packed and delivered truckloads of the donated items to the Indonesian Embassy in New York City, and a Red Cross site in Lower Manhattan.

The Muslims Scouts and I.Q.O.U. staff is continuing their aid efforts and have arranged to set up collection booths at neighborhood shopping areas.  The Wal-Mart Store in Binghamton has made space available for Scouts to collect items for the on going relief effort.

In the tradition of Islamic practices, and American charity and generosity, I.Q.O.U. and the Muslim Scouts stand proud and ready to assist in any humanitarian effort.
