(IP) –Seven
thousand Pakistani troops seized much of a second tribal district as
the army widens its six-month-old offensive against Taliban guerrillas,
after the takeover of the militants’ South Waziristan bastion, reported
Anwar Shakir for Bloomberg in mid-month.
Army Spokesman, Major
General Athar Abbas, commented that, “In all regions where we get
information about militants, the military will take action.”
However,
despite recent successes, the military is being heavily criticized for
allegedly killing an equal number of civilians along with Taliban
extremists during an air strike on a village in the Khyber tribal
region.
