GIZA– In the shadow of the great pyramids and sphinx, despite the fall season, the heat was still rather intense in Cairo. The winds were stronger than usual and there was dust and sand everywhere. This, however, could not stop the thousands of marchers and runners who showed up for the first ‘Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure’: a march designed to raise awareness and attention to breast cancer and the best methods of detection and prevention of the disease.

Among the runners were International Quranic Open University students Qaasim A. Wasi and Hassan Ali who turned up to support the cause and bring to the marchers attention, the opportunities provided by the El-Gilani Methodology, a method developed by his eminence El Sheikh Mubarik Ali Shah Gilani, which has been proven to cure any so called “incurable diseases,” including various types of cancer.

It was the first Race for the Cure, organized by ‘Susan G. Komen for the Cure’ and the ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation of Egypt’ under the auspices of the First lady of Egypt, Suzanne Mubarak, to be held in the Middle East. Participants in the march came from various places and levels of society. Groups of racers included university students, activists from as many as ten different Middle Eastern and North African countries, breast cancer survivors, and Egyptians and expatriates of various walks of life. “It has been very up-lifting to see so many come out and support such a good cause,” said Qaasim A. Wasi, who said he’s had family members and friends effected by cancer. Survivors, in particular, were honored, as event organizer and founder of ‘Susan G. Komen for the Cure’, Nancy G. Brinker declared the day would be “the beginning of the end of breast cancer in Egypt.”

The IQOU students participated in the run and gave an issue of The Islamic Post, containing an inspiring article of cancer survival, to each of the main organizers. “God willing, the people here will continue to raise awareness and take steps to cure this disease forever,” Qaasim said. The IQOU students said they will continue to support the cause of promoting awareness and education of the cures of all types of cancer, in the days to come.
